STEP ONE:  Funding and Financing Your Business

Learning how to give a quick elevator pitch will make you golden.
Who are you?  What do you do?  How will you make people's lives better?  What do you need to do that?
You should learn how to answer these questions in less that 30 seconds - One to two sentences maximum.

A great way to learn about and plan for approaching investors is through Growthink's Funding series:
Once you have learned how to do it, check out the Go Big Network to find investors.
Another idea is to enroll your friends and the community into your possibility if you have a creative idea.
Kickstarter is a perfect way to use your crowd funding skills and to raise funds without losing your rights to your own work.

STEP TWO:  Set up credit card and collection systems.

There are a few major companies that will collect payments for you.  Many of these companies have phone applications that you can use to charge cards right from your phone!  I use two:

  • Solid Trust Pay.
    • This company works similar to Paypal, but it is more secure.
  • Intuit Go Payment.
    • Go payment works on my Blackberry where most work only on android phones.
    • Go payment works together with my Quickbooks, for easy accounting.

STEP THREE:  Create a Budget.
Set up Accounting and Payroll Software.

For a business you will want to get the software.  Just keep in mind that if you can't manage your personal finances and budget, you will not be successful with a business budget.  Create great financial habits early.
  • Mint.Com is a free personal budget site on-line.  It is a great place to learn to manage your finances.
  • WaveAcounting is a free Business accounting site.  You pay for payroll and upgraded services.
  • Quickbooks with Payroll services is the perfect way to go with your business when you get bigger.  Once you have it set up, you will find that it is an essential part of doing business.
